What it is
Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) removes some of your plasma and replaces it with albumin. It is an established hospital treatment for specific conditions. Its use for ageing and longevity is investigational. At Refuah, any program is individually reviewed and often paired with testing before and after.
Investigational. This therapy is not FDA-approved for longevity or anti-aging, and the evidence is early. We offer it only after a physician consultation, with informed consent, when your physician judges that the possible benefit outweighs the risks.
Who it’s for
- Adults who understand its investigational status and pass a detailed medical review
- Patients referred for an established indication, coordinated with their specialist
What to expect
- Consultation and informed consent
- Pre-procedure labs and vascular access review
- A session of about 2 to 3 hours in a private suite, with continuous monitoring
- Recovery snack and rest, then follow-up labs
The evidence, in plain language
Early human studies, including small trials, suggest plasma exchange can change some ageing-related blood markers. Whether that leads to longer or healthier lives is unknown. We do not claim that it reverses ageing, removes “toxins” or treats any disease outside its established indications.
Safety first
- Possible effects include low blood pressure, tingling from citrate, bleeding risk and infection
- Some medicines and antibodies are removed with plasma, so timing is planned
- A physician is on site for every session
